As you leisurely wander along Avenida Central, right by the Central Hotel, an intriguing two-story building beckons your attention. Its ground floor houses a quintessential Panamanian gift store, brimming with a vibrant array of souvenirs to captivate tourists. Above this retail space, a splendid balcony graces the building, adorned with the most exquisite copper railing.
Although the doors are showing signs of wear and tear, they valiantly cling to their hinges. The facade of the building reveals the beauty of calicanto brick, with areas where the stucco spackling has gracefully fallen away. Notably, there are spade-shaped openings, likely intended as air vents, adding a touch of character. The overall effect is nothing short of beautiful.
In a recent turn of events, this building has been listed for sale, prompting a fresh coat of brown paint on the doors in an endeavor to mitigate signs of decay. The balcony stretches elegantly, and on the opposite side, there is another window (#19 Warm Balcony), which basks in a subtly different sunlight, warmer hues. These two images are often acquired as a set, creating a striking display when hung side by side on a wall.
